Upgrades

There are a number of upgrades which can be purchased from merchants throughout the game. These upgrades usually require Gear Parts and Advanced Gear Parts, which are limited and found in treasure chests.

Capacity Upgrades

Capacity upgrades increase the storage space in the player inventory for items and ammo.

Backpack

Backpack Expansions - Allow you to carry more items in your backpack. Backpack capacity expansions don't require Gear Parts.

Bomb Box

Weapon Upgrades

Weapon upgrades upgrade the power and damage of bombs and weapons. Like capacity upgrades they often require Gear Parts - except the Frying Pan's upgrades, which are based on story progress.

Flame Upgrade

Cog Upgrade

Pan Upgrades

The frying pan is upgrades when the player passes certain milestones in the story.

After being upgraded the pan appearance changes as both a held weapon and in the cooking mini-game window.

Level 1 This is the initial pan John begins the game with. After breaking his pan fighting slugs Mason upgrades the pan, enabling it to use a charged attack.
Frying Pan 2.png
Level 2 After impressing Lee with cooking, he leaves a new pan as a gift for John with Alva.
Frying Pan 3.png
Level 3 The pan is upgraded to maximum level by the members of the Rocket Knight Legion just before entering the Eternal Tower for the second time.

Achievements

There are three achievements related to upgrades, which require the player upgrade their backpack and bombs/ammo to max capacity, as well as upgrading all weapons to max power.

Missable Purchase capacity upgrades from merchants for the bomb and ammo boxes. This requires Gear Parts and Advanced Gear Parts - to unlock this and all weapon upgrades all of these resources in game must be found in treasure chests.
Achievement Monster Pack.jpg Monster Pack Upgrade your backpack to its maximum capacity. Missable Purchase capacity upgrades from merchants. Upgrades are available for salt from merchants through the story, and if missed they can be purchased from later merchants.
Achievement Armed to the Teeth.jpg Armed to the Teeth Upgrade all weapons to their max levels. Missable Purchase weapon upgrades from merchants for the Cog Shooter, Specter of Flame, and Bang Bang Gun. The Frying pan upgrades are unlocked through the story and can't be missed. Purchasing upgrades requires Gear Parts and Advanced Gear Parts - to unlock this and all weapon capacity upgrades all of these resources in game must be found in treasure chests.
