Relationships: Alva (Childhood Friend)

“I'm a big believer in fate. Fate is, after all, what brought me to this moment.

What made me the owner of this fine establishment. And what led you here to this office.”

Lee is the sinister casino boss of New Dam City. Also referred to as "Lee-Lee" by Alva, he's a childhood friend of Alva and was raised by Alva's grandfather. Lee works with Alva to protect New Dam City from the MIASMA.

Appearance

Lee is a man with dark purple hair, cropped at the sides with a cowlick at the top. He sports a large, dark suit jacket with thick shoulder pads, a white pocket square and bright red lapels, secured with a gold button and chain. This is layered on top of a white dress shirt and a khaki tie. His comparatively thin legs to his broader body are clad in blue pants and black dress shoes. Lee has beady eyes with dark blue shadows and a bruise-like blotch covering one of them and part of his forehead. He has a five o'clock shadow and a whiskery mustache.

Official art of Lee also depicts him with a snaggletooth and a snub nose, which may also reference how his nostrils visibly flare out during his laugh animation.

Personality

As the boss of New Dam City's casino, Lee is powerful, self important and a crook. He enjoys making bets and toying with people. However, his smug attitude doesn't prevent him from being charmed by Sam's lively demeanor. Lee agrees with Alva calling him a bad man, but states that he would never go back on his word.

Outwardly he acts very irritated by Alva, not unlike how a sibling might, but he cares deeply about her and later shows remorse for being unable to keep his word and protect her. He also cares a lot more about the city's citizens than he lets on, aiding Alva and Isabel by lending his men to man the Buddha Fan.

Biography

Growing up in New Dam City with Alva, she reveals that in the past Lee used to be an Earth Born fanboy and a big lover of the Big Dam Crab Pot. Its later revealed he formerly had a dog, which was killed by Isabel after Lee and Alva's grandfather took her in.

John and Sam first encounter Lee after Sam uses the Lucky Coin to win at an infamously unwinnable slot machine. Noticing the commotion as the casino's patrons gather around and cheer her on, Dam Goons emerge from the upper floor of the casino to apprehend her and John, taking them to Lee's office.

Lee seems more amused than angry, deliberating over whether Sam and John may actually be foretold heroes from the Wind God's Prophecy:

“Once fate has run its course... The covetous machine will meet its end.

That is when good and evil shall descend. Together with the Wind God, the heroes will take up their fight... to save New Dam City from its plight.”

He then proposes a wager: John and Sam will prepare three dishes, if one of them takes his fancy, the duo win. Immediately after agreeing to it, Alva bursts in, chewing Lee out for smoking and asking him if he's "made another bet again". After the scene ends, listening in on Alva and Lee talking reveals that it's "well known that the hero was a master chef".

Over the course of the chapter, Sam and John seek out ingredients for their three attempts, Glazy Berries for a Glazy Berry Jam that end up being swindled off them by William, big dam crabs for a Big Dam Crab Pot that ends up being overcooked when John and Sam get sidelined into helping Jasper and the circus troupe, then finally a Golden Valley Snapper from Quake Valley served with other ingredients offered up by the troupe.

The final dish wins over Lee, at which he offers Sam anything she can think of as a prize, including taking his role as boss of the casino. Instead, Sam asks that Lee come for dinner every night, so that John can cook him all sorts of things. He laughs and agrees.

Later, Lee aids Alva and Isabel in operating the Buddha Fan and has the citizens of New Dam City take shelter from the MIASMA in his casino.
