Buchan is a resident of Ester City. He's a meteorologist, and very serious.
He also teaches, and has fallen in love with one of his students - Ladah. She returns his feelings, even though she's concerned what others may think because he is her teacher.
Other residents of Ester City refer to him as "Professor Buchan".
As you progress on the time-loop, you get to see Buchan separated from Ladah, when asked, he pretends to have no idea about marriage with his student, which could indicate he feels ashamed.
